Doctorate / PhD

The Doctoral program at ENSAIA covers 3 years that are based for the most part on scientific and professional experience in a laboratory. This is associated with introductory scientific modules and professionalizing education modules.
In addition to their activities in the fundamental domains, the partners in the laboratories at ENSAIA also open doctoral perspectives in direct line with the professional world.

For the doctoral program, ENSAIA is associated with the Doctoral School RP2E- ED 410 "Ressources Procédés Produits  Environnement"

Having a resolutely cross-disciplinary nature, the Doctoral School RPE covers the entire life cycle of mineral, biological materials and energy, with the respect and at the service of Man and his Environment.
It includes 21 laboratories and research teams of the Universityé of Lorraine, AgroParisTech ENGREF-Nancy and 2 EPST (CNRS et INRA).

The scientific and technological domains covered are as follows:

  • Geosciences
  • Agronomy and Sylvan Sciences, Biology and Ecology, Biotechnologies
  • Product engineering, processes and industrial systems

The industrial and professional sectors concerned are:

  • Forest-wood
  • Agriculture-Food Processing

The major themes:

  • Knowledge of natural systems,
  • Genesis of the resource (energy and mineral raw materials, water, soil, agricultural production, forest and wood),
  • Exploitation and sustainable management of resources,
  • Processing and Processing methods of Food and the valorization of materials and energy,
  • Product design and functions,
  • Evaluation, treatment and management of waste,
  • Health, Food and Environmental Safety, managing the risks.

Admissions

Admissions rules and procedures are governed by the Doctoral School "Ressources Procédés Produits Environnement" (RPPE).

Admission is determined by:

  • Acceptance into one of the host laboratories of the Doctoral School
  • Proof of a minimum level of resources during the thesis period

Level of admission

  • in 1st year of doctorate program only

Level of studies required for admission on records

  • Hold a French engineer degree 
  • Hold a French Master’s degree
  • or an equivalent level (i.e. 300 ECTS)

For foreign degrees, a request for equivalence must be made with the Doctoral School RPPE

Selectio criteria:

The scientific quality of your dossier is an essential point.

Admissions procedures and processing of the dossier:

The procedures and processing of the dossier are directly managed by the candidate, the Thesis Director and the Director of the host research unit.  
Admissions can be decided at any time of the year, but the procedures can last several months.
The doctorate program usually starts between September and December.

Foreign students:

  • Immigration formalities
    You must imperatively find out the administrative steps concerning your entry on French soil (visa, CEF procedure, etc.).
    Your candidature does not autorize you to enter France.
  • Enrollment fees (approximative)
     University fees €300/year
     Tuition fees €50/year
     Student health insurance (mandatory): €200/year
