History

ENSAIA in a few dates...

1893Creation of Ecole de Brasserie et de Malterie (Brewing and Malting School) in Nancy

1901Creation of Institut Colonial et Agricole (Colonial and Agricultural Institute) in Nancy

1905Creation of Ecole de Laiterie (Dairy School) in Nancy

1948Institut Colonial et Agricole (Colonial and Agricultural Institute) in Nancy becomes Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Agronomie de Nancy (ENSA), a French national Agronomy school.

1966: The agronomy engineering students take turns for 24 hours racing around Place Stanislas: the 24H of Stan is the biggest student even in France today

1967Acquisition of the farm “La Bouzule” (in Champenoux, 30 km from Nancy), bought from the hospital in Nancy.

1971: Creation of Institut National Polytechnique de Nancy (INP) (National Polytechnic Institute of Nancy). The Ministry imposed merging the 3 schools specialized in the biology sector (Ecole de Brasserie, Ecole de Laiterie and ENSA), thus creating ENSAIA. INP of Nancy became a federation of 5 schools: école des MINES, ENSIC, ENSEM, ENSG and ENSAIA.

1984: ENSAIA moves from its location in rue Sainte-Catherine in Nancy to the plateau of Brabois. The school found a balance and created two engineering programs. The graduate degrees obtained are thus "Ingénieur de l'ENSAIA spécialité Agronomie" (Engineer of ENSAIA, specialized in Agronomy) and "Ingénieur de l'ENSAIA spécialité Industries Alimentaires" (Engineer of ENSAIA, specialized in Food Industry).

1995: Perpetuating and demonstrating the tradition of "Lorraine, Territory of Brewers", the school’s graduate engineering students invent "A la rencontre des Brasseurs" (The meeting of the Brewers), a biannual even in Nancy.

2006 to 2011: INPL becomes a member of Nancy-Université, a public scientific establishment cooperation (EPCS) joining the 3 universities in Nancy (INPL, Nancy2 and Université Henri Poincaré).

2007: Michel Fick is elected Director of the school and succeeds François Laurent. He then launches the project "Projet EAT" (Environment, Agriculture and Technology), better known under the name of "Projet Bouzule". This major school project consists of applying a policy of sustainable development within the agricultural domain of the farm “La Bouzule”, in terms of crop, building and energy practices.

2012: ENSAIA becomes part of Université de Lorraine (with the fusion of 4 Lorraine universities - INPL, Nancy 2, UHP, UPVM) and is integrated into the Engineering Collegium "Lorraine - INP".

2013: Implementation of the Methanation platform of the farm “la Bouzule”, combining methanation, the pilot and the analysis laboratory.

2013: ENSAIA, business incubator for 9 young start-ups started directly from its research laboratories.

2014: The CTI authorizes the program “Food Production”, accessible by apprenticeship, making it a 3rd graduate degree, "Ingénieur de l'ENSAIA spécialité Production alimentaire" (Engineer of ENSAIA, specialized in Food Production)
